Situation:

A custom sign manufacturer was designing a new product and needed a bonding solution that could bond well to aluminium &fiberglass pass and their strength and impact test requirements

Substrates: Aluminium - Alloy || GRP (Glass Reinforced Plastic)

Challenges:

The manufacturer was evaluating many bonding solutions and the one they had come close to considering had the following challenges:

  • Manual adhesive dispensing method reduced available production time by 15%.
  • Required surface abrasion steps increased process labor costs

Solutions:

The manufacturer, post consultation with Henkel’s solution expert, tested LOCTITE H8000 acrylic structural bonder. Post cleaning the surfaces, LOCTITE H8000 was dispensed onto the bond line areas using a pneumatic applicator equipped with a mixer nozzle. The sign components were clamped together and allowed to fixture for 30 mins.

The assembly bonded with LOCTITE H8000 exceeded the rigorous engineering test requirements for shear and impact strength.
