Situation:

A lighting manufacturer wanted to design a new system using LED bulbs which would meet the IP67 ingress protection rating for dust and water and be able to bond a glass lens to an aluminum body.

Substrates: Aluminium - Alloy || Tempered Glass (Sekurit)

Challenges:

• The manufacturer was considering a solution which was unable to: Pass high-pressure water spray test criteria
• Resist loading test of 1000 kg

Solution:

Henkel solutions expert recommended TERSON MS 9399 modified silane structural adhesive for this application. Teroson MS 9399 is hand dispensed from pneumatic dispenser using a mixer nozzle. The glass lens is pressed in position minimizing the bond line gap to create a complete seal.

The assembly bonded with Teroson MS 9399 is able to meet all IP 67 ingress protection rating specifications and passes the high pressure water spray and load resistance tests.

Results:

Bonding and sealing with Teroson MS 9399:

• Maintains complete seal protecting the LED from air leaks and dust intrusion
• Renders high bond strength and weather resistance that prevent water intrusion
